  • Light: Full to partial sun
  • Soil: Well draining, acidic soil. These plants hate to have "wet feet."
  • Hardiness: Hardy down to 20 degrees. The caffeine in the leaves gives the Cold Hardy immunity so that it stands up to pests, diseases, and temperature extremes.
  • Uses: A few plants will supply you with a lifetime of tea, fresh and as pure as possible! It will grow to a very large shrub if left on its own, but it will also do well indoors with bright indirect light.

To use it for tea production, which uses only the new growth at stem tips, you will want to keep it pruned to about 3 or 4 feet to make it easy to harvest and to keep it producing fresh new stems.
